Carol Smith, age 55, beloved mother, wife, and friend passed away peacefully on 6 May 2020.  She was known for her boundless energy and her dedication to her family, her career and her many philanthropic pursuits. Carol grew up in Clearwater, FL, received an undergraduate degree from Duke University in Economics and graduated with a Masters in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management.  She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013.  True to her nature, she set out at that point to become a tireless advocate for those who suffer from this terrible disease.  She was an active supporter of Metavivor and its mission to help women and men with metastatic breast cancer, she supported the Susan G. Komen foundation as a board member and spokesperson, and she was a patient advocate who spoke frequently at breast cancer events and received the Jones-Hendryx Forever Fighter Award.  Though the disease would eventually claim her life, it also brought her a new family united by their struggles but also by their love of life and passion to find a cure. Carol was active with the American Heart Association and a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America.  As a competitive intelligence manager in the insurance industry, she was on the board of the Society of Insurance Research and was an advocate for professional women. Carol is survived by her husband Richard C. Moore II, her daughter Caroline E. Moore, her son Benjamin C. Moore, her mother Sandra Fleming Smith and her sister Bonnie J. Smith (Audrey M. Greene). A celebration of Carol's life is planned for later this year.  In lieu of flowers, Carol would be deeply honored by memorial contributions made to Metavivor.org, an organization very dear to her.
