Dorothy Ann Kipfstuhl, age 92, of Solon, passed away on September 6 after a brief hospitalization.

Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary, brothers Edward (Bettie, deceased) and Thomas, and sister Polly Cesnovar (Frank, deceased), Dorothy is survived by brothers John (Patricia), James (Karen) and Leo (Linda) and her sister Rita Fowler (Bud, deceased).  Dorothy was a beloved and probably favorite aunt to 15 nieces and nephews, great aunt to 20, and great-great aunt to Apollo and Sebastian.   All of them already miss her terribly.

Dorothy grew up in a large Catholic family in Cleveland's Cranwood neighborhood.  A graduate of St. Timothy grade school in Garfield Heights, Dorothy attended high school at Sacred Heart Academy.  She earned a degree from Notre Dame College and later a master's degree from Western Reserve University.  She first taught school at local Catholic elementary schools and ultimately settled in as a first-grade teacher at Cleveland's Mount Pleasant Elementary School, where she taught until her retirement in the 1980s.  Her nieces and nephews looked forward to helping her grade papers during weekend visits and holiday sleepovers.  After retiring from teaching, Dorothy spent time babysitting, travelling with family and following Cleveland sports (a lifelong hobby).

In late 2017, when asked how she wanted to celebrate her upcoming 90 ^th birthday in February, Dorothy said, "Let's go to Vegas!" and she and a contingent of family members did.

Dorothy was a generous person.  She sent the funniest birthday cards.  When she wasn't wearing an Indians or Browns t-shirt, she was wearing a sweatshirt from a favorite vacation spot or the college that one of her family members attended.  She was Santa for every niece and nephew of every generation, regardless of age.  Upon the death of her parents in the 1970s, Dorothy (and her brother Tom, until his death in 1996) hosted the major family holidays at her home in Solon.  The last holiday the family spent together there was Christmas 2019.  Covid-19 kept them apart on Easter in 2020.  Please keep the extended Kipfstuhl family in your thoughts as they try to navigate the upcoming holidays without her.

Her last day on Earth was sunny and beautiful, and the Indians beat the Brewers 4-1.

Calling hours will be Thursday, September 10, from 9 to 11 at Tabone-Komorowski Funeral Home, 33650 Solon Road, in Solon.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 at St. Rita's Church in Solon.  Interment private.
