Edward W. Kanieski Sr. (1936-2014)

Edward Kanieski, age 78, of Russell Township passed away Thursday June 5th of complications from Alzheimer's disease at the Anna Maria Nursing Home in Aurora, where he was a resident under hospice care for several months.

Edward was born January 16th 1936 to Irene and Edward Kanieski in Cleveland Ohio, where he had also attended school. He was the oldest of six kids. Edward proudly joined the United States Marine Corps in January 1954 where he operated as an infantry machine gunner at the Marine Barracks, Naval Air Station in Patuxent River Maryland. Then in August 1955, Edward's father passed away. Edward was given an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, then called back home where he was handed the responsibility of helping his mother raise his younger siblings. After having returned home, he met, then fell in love with his soon-to-be wife. Edward became married February 8th 1958. He continued to live in Cleveland where he started a family. In 1971 Edward moved his family to Russell Ohio in Geauga County.

Everyone who knew Edward, knew that his first priority in life was his family. For many years Edward worked 2 and 3 jobs to ensure his family would have enough to eat and still pay the bills. Edward found work at the East Ohio Gas Company where he started work as a labor, digging ditches, then ultimately worked his way to Supervisor. He continued to work for the East Ohio Gas Company for the next 39 years, before he finally retired in 1994.

In his leisure time, Edward spent many hours in his vegetable garden tending to his plants, which he grew yearly. Edward also enjoyed camp fires in his backyard and giving tractor rides to all his grandchildren. He also loved fishing. In early spring, he and his closest friends and family would often drive 14 hours north into Quebec Canada, where he would spend a week pike and walleye fishing. In the summer months, Edward enjoyed taking his family camping in places like Allegheny State Park, Lake Chautauqua, West Branch State Park and Berlin National Park.

Edward is survived by his wife, and true love, Bernadine Kanieski. They remained married for 56 years, until his passing, (6) daughters, Barbara Hoover (Curt, deceased), Susan Kocon (John), Patricia Seuffert (Raymond), Diane Schneider (Fred), Judith Schumann (David) and Karen Mostar (Thomas), his (2) sons Edward Kanieski Jr. (Gina) and Timothy Kanieski (Lori), his (23) grandchildren, Kristin, Adam, Brian, Julie, Sarah, Matthew, Lisa, Mandy, Melissa, Ranelle, Kevin, Rachel, Jacob, Madison, Jonah, Nicole, Maximilian, Thomas Jr., Brooke, Catarina, Isabella, Kazimierz and Tadeusz, (3) great grandchildren, Zoey, Kiersten, Oliver and Lachlan his (2) brother's, Jerome and Norman, and his (2) sisters, Carol and Rosemarie. He was preceded in death by his mother Irene and younger brother James Kanieski.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the caregivers at the Anna Marie Nursing home for all their love and special care given to Edward over the past 4 months.

Funeral Service on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 9 A.M. at TABONE-KOMOROWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 33650 SOLON RD. (JUST W. OF S.O.M. CENTER) followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 12969 Chillicothe Rd., Chesterland. FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS SUNDAY, JUNE 8, 2014 AT THE FUNERAL HOME FROM 1 TO 4 P.M. AND 6 TO 8 P.M.
