EDWARD KREJSA June 4, 1924 – October 28, 2018
Beloved husband of Katherine (nee Contento); loving father of Ted (Maria), Amy Carney (Kevin), Andrew, and David; dear
grandfather of Donovan and Mary Kate Carney and Anneliese, Edward, Jacob, and Joseph Krejsa.
Edward was a WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard on the USS Gulfport on the Atlantic, in Africa, and in the Aleutian
Islands. After the war, he worked on freighters on the Great Lakes. He worked on cars from a young age and could make almost
anything look and run like new. Edward was also an amateur boxer and competed in the Golden Gloves. He had a strong baritone
voice and appeared on the Dorothy Fuldheim Show in 1957. Later, he sold cars and then worked in real estate. In the 1970s, Edward
saved the Solon train station from demolition, renovating the building and an old caboose and running an antique store there for a
few years. Hard work kept him fit and strong to an old age. Edward was a past Commander of Solon VFW Post 1863 and proudly
assisted with countless veterans' funerals and marched in several parades each year. He arranged the Memorial Day ceremony in
Bainbridge for many years until no longer able to physically do so.
In his retirement, Edward also enjoyed hiking many miles with the Cleveland Hiking Club, reunions of his shipmates, car shows, and
hunting for antiques. He volunteered as a docent on the Steamship Mather Museum in Cleveland, where he enjoyed leading tours
and telling stories of the lakes. He was proud of his Czech roots and loved to attend events at Sokol Greater Cleveland and DTJ.
When he finally became a grandfather, he never missed a chance to spend time with his grandchildren, who brought much joy to his
later years. Full of stories and surrounded by characters, he will be forever in our hearts. Viewing (10am) and funeral service (11am)
to take place Friday, November 2, 2018 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Chagrin Falls.
