John Arthur Green was born in Columbus, Ohio, to Dorothy and Arthur Green on August 4, 1939.  He died in Cleveland, Ohio, on September 22, 2020, of heart failure. He is preceded in death by his parents and by brother-in-law David Pentz (Sharon). Due to the ongoing pandemic, the family will celebrate his life in a private service and look for ways to connect with friends when social distancing is no longer necessary.

Family was the top priority to John.. He was a much loved husband, father, and grandfather.  He is survived by his wife of 38 years Catherine (Cathy) Maurer Green, son James Matthew (Matt) Green (wife Jocelyn), and daughter Katie Green Reed (husband Robert), brother Don Green (wife Donna), and sisters Sharon Green Pentz and Carolyn Green Anders (husband Joe).  He was the proud grandfather to Jade, Jesse, and Victoria Green; Natalie, Jackson, and Colin Reed; and great grandfather to Kayleigh Michaels and Lily Latorre. He was the rare adult who was able to be as silly as the kids and they loved him for it.  John also had numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.

John graduated from Linden High School in Columbus, Ohio, where he lettered in three sports.  He stayed close with many of his classmates and traveled to Columbus regularly in order to gather with his friends.  He served in the Ohio National Guard from 1962-1970. He was an avid sports fan with a particular interest in the OSU Buckeyes, the NY Yankees, and any team featuring LeBron James (who he claimed to have discovered!).  He was known for his "legendary" knowledge of sports memorabilia.
