MADELYN HAMADIK
passed away at the
Westminster-Thurber
Community Nursing
Center in Columbus,
Ohio, on January 26,
2015, fifty days shy of
her 82nd birthday.
Madelyn was preceded
in death by her mother
and father, Anna and Charles Butch; her
sister, Lillian; and her devoted husband,
Charles. She leaves behind her daughters,
Charlotte Chadik (Paul), Susan Reeser
(Steve), Kathryn Hamadik, and June
O'Brien (Mark); sisters, Elaine Orleski
(John), Millie Arens (Wally); brothers,
Gene Butch, Myron Butch (Mary); and
many nieces and nephews.
Madelyn was born in Scranton,
Pennsylvania., the eldest of seven children,
and grew up in the heart of the NE
Pennsylvania's hard coal mining country.
In 1951, she married her sweetheart,
Charlie Hamadik, and they eventually
moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where Charlie
found work at the C&O Railroad. In 1957
they purchased a home and 4 acres in
Solon, Ohio, where they raised their
daughters and became members of that
growing community. Madelyn worked as a
key punch operator for Western Electric
and retired from the company as a
Pioneer, with more than 20 years of
service. She was a very dedicated
employee, proud of her position at, and
contributions to, Western Electric.
Madelyn served as the President of the
Solon Garden Club for many years and
enjoyed shopping and crocheting. She was
an avid collector of antiques and had a
great love and affection for animals.
Strong in her faith, Madelyn was an ardent
advocate of Catholic elementary and
secondary education for her daughters,
and she and Charles were active and
committed members of St. Rita's Catholic
Church. Madelyn's family relocated her to
Westminster-Thurber Community in 2008
when she gradually became more infirm.
She resided there for nearly seven years
before departing this life.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Rita's Catholic Church Monday February 16, at 11:00 a.m. in Solon Ohio, with interment at Roselawn
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made in Madelyn's name to the
Cleveland Animal Protection League at
1729 Willey Ave, Cleveland, OH 44113 or
to Rascal Charities, Inc. (a non-profit
organization created to help animals in
