Matthew Pacak, 96, Matthew was born in Campbell, Ohio January 31, 1926, the youngest son of Matthew and Helen Vavrek Pacak. He loved his family, country, religion, career and golf!  In his youth, he enjoyed his accelerated courses in mathematics along with participating in football and basketball.  He advanced in scouting to Life Scout. He graduated high school from Campbell Memorial High School in 1944 and, three days later entered the United States Marine boot camp at Camp Lejeune, serving in the First Armored Amphibian Battalion in World War II.

Matthew enthusiastically served in the Marine Corp from 1944-1946. After World War II, he returned to Youngstown, Ohio to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering graduating from Youngstown State in 1951. Shortly thereafter, he married Helen, the love of his life, who proceeded him in death June 2020, after 69 years of marriage.

Matthew had a successful career of 35 years with the Eaton Corporation. He received 16 patents and was instrumental in influencing the expansion of the automotive industry. He was a highly skilled golfer with 3 career hole-in-ones and shooting his age twice, once at 66 and again at age 84.  He was Grand Master of the Solon Masonic Lodge 757 in Solon, Ohio, and a member of American Legion Post 43. He was known by friends and family to be a competitive card player notorious for never giving anyone a break, most especially his lovely wife Helen.

Matthew was devout in his faith and faithfully committed to his church. In his youth, guided by his father, he assisted his childhood parish by mowing the cemetery grounds and preparing gravesites. Matthew followed in his father's footsteps as a founding member of the parish church community supporting the St. Andrews Eastern Orthodox Church and serving as board President for several terms. Under his leadership and guidance, the church started the very popular fish and pierogi dinners offered during Lent.  Among many volunteering efforts to support his church, he was a member of the choir for many enjoyable and memorable years.

Matthew was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his parents; three brothers Michael, John and infant George, five sisters Mrs. Helen Tirpak, Mrs. Mary Wilush, Mrs. Kay Cochran, Mrs. Ann Sosnowchik and Mrs. Marge Kosach. He is survived by his children and their spouses Matthew T., Susan G. Benedict (Al) and James E. (Shealeen); and he was the dearest grandfather of 9 and great-grandfather of 5. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the St. Andrew Eastern Orthodox Church.

Friends and family will be received Friday, July 15th 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. and the Parastas service will be at 7:00 P.M. at TABONE KOMOROWSKI FUNERAL HOME 33650 SOLON RD. (JUST W. OF SOM) Solon, 44139. Orthodox Burial Services will be held Saturday, July 16 ^th at 10:00 A.M. at St. Andrew Eastern Orthodox Church, 16029 Maple Park Drive, Maple Hts., OH 44137.  Interment Roselawn Cemetery.
