Otto Hilary "Tach" Tachovsky

Passed away January 24, 2022, at the age of 96. Beloved husband of Mary Ruth (nee Cabala). Loving father of Hilary (Kathy), Lynn (Michael) Comella, Mary Jo Lucarelli, and Laura (Joshua) Hermiz. Cherished and proud grandfather of Michele (Jonathan) Frakes, Nicolina (Nathan) Blackerby, Anthony (Johanna) Lucarelli, Evan, Jenna (Aaron) Chu, Dominic Lucarelli, Ella, Susan, Kira, Kayla Hermiz, 13 great grandchildren, uncle and great uncle of many nieces and nephews, and a friend to many. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Frances (nee Vlossak) Tachovsky, and seven siblings Joseph, John, George, Mary, Frank, Fred, and Charles, and his dear daughter-in-law, Anne (nee Caldwell) Tachovsky.

On November 19, 2021, Hilary came home from the hospital with the tremendous care of Cleveland Clinic Hospice.  These amazing angels helped him to be comfortable and gave the family the support needed.  Hilary loved family get-togethers and during the last two months of his life he was able to enjoy all the holidays from Thanksgiving to his 96 ^th birthday in January.  He would say having his family together was the best present.  He also was able to meet his two newest great grandchildren, Jane (7wks.) and little Charlie (7 1/2mos.).

Everyone was grateful to have that time with him.

Born in Greensburg, PA., Hilary played football from a young age. He was president of his High School Senior class. He went on to serve in the US Navy towards the end of World War II. After the war, Hilary worked as an engineer for Jack & Heintz. In the mid-seventies, he owned and operated Tach's Texaco. Eventually he got back into the Engineering field and worked with Stock Equipment Companies. Hilary and a coworker, Stephen L. Ross, invented the Azeotropic Drying Process which was patented in 1983. He retired in 1989, and he then began managing the Solon Valley Party Center for 9 years. He spent so much time at the hall, that people asked if he slept there. He was active in the Solon Chamber of Commerce as well.

Hilary and his lovely wife, Mary, started attending St. Rita's Catholic Church in 1956 when they moved to Solon. He was a Scoutmaster for Troup 428, volunteered at PTU activities, chaired dances and was a Bingo caller. He participated as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister in his church for many years and was involved with the Solon Ecumenical Movement of the churches in Solon. He was a member of the K of C Club #4893 for 56 years, serving as Treasurer and the Chairman of the annual golf outing for a couple of years.  Hilary was honored as the Knights of Columbus Man of the Year in 1979.

In his later years, Hilary and Mary were very involved in the Solon Senior Center, dancing at senior centers, being involved with the Senior Olympics on staff and Chairman of their golf league. He was voted Senior of the Year in 2010.

Family and friends are invited to meet for the Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Otto's life on FRIDAY, FEB. 4 AT 11:00AM AT ST. RITA'S CHURCH AT 32820 BALDWIN RD., SOLON, OH. Following the mass, family will receive friends at a lunch reception, located in the Solon Community Center banquet room, on 35000 Portz Pkwy, Solon, OH, at 12:30pm. In lieu of Flowers, memorial donations may be made in Otto's name to St. Rita's Church or Cleveland Clinic Hospice.
